Passion… A strong word we often under-estimate, or simply forget about. There are these simple moments in life, where we are so mesmerized, and don’t even know why. Moments that take our breath away, and we are just not sure why we feel so good about it.
Here you are, driving down the road in crazy rainy weather. After 10 minutes, the sky opens up, and the sun fights to shine through. Next thing you see is this beautiful rainbow at the end of the road, and you are just in complete awe about it. You can’t stop looking at it, and you have this good, happy feeling inside of you. You are just feeling really amazing by seeing what you see.
Maybe it’s not the rainbow for you, maybe it’s seeing a certain animal at the zoo, or people you love just having a really great time with each other. Maybe it’s a strong peace you feel when a baby falls asleep in your arms, or maybe it’s something completely different… You have this passion. You look at something, and you are so grateful for it, and can’t explain how you feel about it exactly. And here is the thing… The only one that knows what you are really passionate about, is you. So this week, let’s talk about identifying some things that fill you with joy and passion.
Passion Ideas
There are so many things in life we have an opportunity to be passionate and thankful for, but often we overlook, or forgot about them because of so many other things we’ve seen, or experienced throughout life so far. A lot of people don’t realize that passion can be a motivation… It motivates to do things you like and love. And when you experience them, it feels so good. You get to feel such a deep joy inside you.
So, what are some things you do in your free time and really enjoy? What is something you do where you feel rewarded when you do it? Can you recall a moment when you accomplished something you really wanted to get done, and then felt so good about it? Could it be that you have a passion for it? Sometimes when you have a passion towards something, it gives you that feeling of doing and accomplishing great things in life.
Keep in mind that every person is different. What you are passionate about, might not be what your roommate, or best friend is passionate about. And that’s completely okay. That’s what makes friendship, and relationships so adventurous. You can always learn and try new and different things, and expand the horizon if you’re willing and open to it. There are so many different passions. Also, you might a passion about things today, that later on might not influence you that much anymore.
So take a deep breath for a moment, and think about some things you really like at this point. Are there things you really liked doing as a kid, and haven’t done in a while? What are some things you wanted to do for a long time and just haven’t done yet? Maybe you just can’t really think about something you are passionate about yet, then you can always learn something new, and see whether you like it or not. Try something, and see how you feel about it. Have you ever taken a moment where you just grabbed a picnic blanket, and sat on the grass somewhere and looked at a sundown? Try it… See if it amazes you to see those different colors in the sky, and how quickly they change…
Let Your Creativity Come to Light
I’m not sure if someone has told you that before, but you do have creativity inside you. Everyone is creative in one way or another. Sometimes kids’ creativity is shut down by adults, when it shouldn’t be, and they stop expressing it in their way. But it’s still inside. So, have you ever expressed it? Just for yourself? It doesn’t have to be painting, or music… It can also be innovative thinking, or writing, or how you treat people you are surrounded with, or things you do inside your home. It’s time to release your creativity. If you’ve had an idea of something for a while, release it, and see how you feel about.
I get it… Sometimes it’s really annoying when you hear the statement ‘you need to grow up…’, but nobody tells you what that means, and what it involves. And people around you tell you that it needs to be done by a certain time point (which is a lie). As mentioned in the first couple blogs, it is so important to get to know and understand yourself first in order to start figuring out passions, and learn new things which lead you to personally grow, and expand the horizon.
One thing for me… I had to learn to get out of the comfort zone. I wanted to learn new and different things, but just wasn’t sure if I should because I liked staying in ‘the safety zone’.
It didn’t feel too comfortable, at first, to try new things, and I wasn’t sure whether I would have the ability to do so. But I knew that in the long run I would regret it if I wouldn’t try, because then I’d never know. I knew I’d be more frustrated later on down the road, if I’d still wonder whether or not I could’ve made it if I would’ve at least tried. With me not trying, automatically causes me to fail from the beginning, and I would never know, how things would feel or go. I didn’t like that. So, I finally decided to take a try, and step into it. It wasn’t always easy, but it felt amazing. I discovered new passions, and re-kindled old ones.
Here is another trap a lot of people fall, or have fallen in before: The People Pleasing. We lean towards passions of others because we try to please them, and end up ignoring or forgetting our own ones.
The Discovery of Your Passions
It is very important, to be very important to yourself through this. What are YOU passionate about? You don’t owe this to anybody, and you don’t have to tell anybody if you don’t want to, but you do owe it to yourself.
What are YOUR passions? Do you like taking photos? Pictures of people? Perhaps the selfies? Things you see and discover in nature? Photos of cities? Do you like the action of taking photos, or do you like taking them to look at them later on? Is it animals you like? Do you like them to just look at, and learn about them, or to pet them? Is it the animals as pets because of their unconditional love towards you?
Do you like learning? What about? Is it about research? Or maybe about finance? Are you studying sports often? Is your heart in volunteering? Or do you really like coaching? Is your heart in editing? Or maybe even writing? Have you noticed yourself designing or drawing things on random papers? When something is broken around you, are you the first one running towards it to fix it? Do you get all involved when watching movies?
Are you currently having a hobby? Is it a hobby that you like doing? Is it something you chose, or is it something you sort of got pushed into? Having a hobby can be a really good thing for you overall, but it has to be something you like to do. If it’s something you’re forced to do, or have been pushed into to do, then it’s not a beneficial thing.
I’m going to be honest with you… for the longest time, I didn’t have any hobbies at all. Sure, I looked doing small things here and there, but I just wouldn’t stick with them. When I had ideas of some things I wanted to do, I would always brush them off with excuses. Not too long ago I heard someone say that if you have a hobby you love doing, it does great things for you in your life as well as your job. That was definitely an eye opener to me.
With all this said, this week take some time to think about this. Put some thought into what some things are that you like, what some things are that you have a passion for. What is a hobby you like? What are some new things you could try and do? Take some time to explore new things that feel good to you. Explore exciting things to you. Be completely honest with yourself when taking this step… If you do something and don’t like it, move on and try something different. If it is something you like, keep doing it. But be honest with yourself. And don’t feel bad about it if it’s something you don’t like. You are discovering yourself, and there is nothing wrong with it.
You are on an adventure trip. I can’t wait to hear the stories about the different adventures and experiences coming from this. Enjoy it to the fullest, and have a lot of fun with it.
Thank you for the encouragement. I hope to develop something I’m passionate about very soon. Until then I’ll keep trying to discover what my passion(s) may be.
Absolutely. Keep going… and just take it one day, one moment at a time, Stay encouraged, and don’t let other people’s opinions, and comments throw you off. This is the time you get to discover what you like :-). When you set goals for yourself, set them as small goals, and every time you accomplish, and reach one you set another one. You got this!!!
